Trip FAQ
How do I book a scenic float?
Call or text (406) 224-8972, or email info@montanaclassicboattours.com. Share your dates and group size and we will let you know what is available.
Can we bring alcohol?
Yes. Guests are welcome to bring wine, beer, or spirits. We provide glasses, coolers, and ice on every trip.
Is this safe for kids?
Yes. The Yellowstone sections we float are calm, scenic water. Life jackets are provided for all ages. Kid friendly charcuterie boards are available on catered trips.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If conditions are unsafe, we reschedule or refund. Light rain usually makes for a beautiful float. We stay in contact and make the call together.
Can we fish and float on the same day?
Yes. We run a fishing drift boat and a scenic wooden boat on the same stretch at the same time through Swan's Fly Fishing. One group fishes, the other floats. Everyone shares the day on the river.
What is the best time of year?
Peak season is June through September. Sunset floats are best in July and August. Fall foliage floats in September and October are exceptional. Early season trips start in late May.
Where do we meet?
Meeting location depends on the float section and time of day. We send detailed meeting instructions after booking.
How many people fit on a boat?
The Joy holds 4 to 6 guests. The Cygnet holds 1 to 3 guests. Both are 20 foot wooden dories. For groups larger than 6, we can run both boats together.
Do you offer wedding or event floats?
Yes. Rehearsal dinners, family reunions, corporate retreats, elopements, and photo shoots can all be built around a custom scenic float. View custom trip details.
How much should I tip the guide?
Gratuity is not included and never expected. If you had a great day, 15 to 20 percent of the trip cost is a common range.
Swan's Fly Fishing
Same owner, same river, same booking system. Swan's Fly Fishing offers guided fly fishing on the Yellowstone, Paradise Valley spring creeks, Madison, and private lakes. Full day $700, half day $600. Year round.
